Hill College Visual and Performing Arts announces spring events

The Hill College Visual and Performing Arts Department and the Phillip H. Lowe Performing Arts Series will continue to stream performances on-demand for Spring 2021 due to COVID-19 protocols.
Performances will be available at www.showtix4u.com/events/hillcollege beginning the Thursday evening of their respective start date and can be viewed for at least 48 hours from the time of release. A credit card is required to secure a streaming code, but it will not be charged for the Phillip H. Lowe Performing Arts Series, the Student Showcase, or the choir and concert band and jazz ensemble concert.
Beginning Thursday, Feb. 19, at 7:30 pm, the Phillip H. Lowe Performing Arts Series Cross That River will be available for free on-demand through Sunday, Feb. 21. Cross That River is an original work which combines elements of American indigenous musical genres from jazz to country and folk. Cross That River represents a significant moment in American history where Black Cowboys lived and helped settle the West. The unsettled West of the 1860s provides a new life and new dreams for Blue, a run-away slave, who escapes from slavery to Texas to become one of America’s first Black Cowboys. This compelling tale of freedom integrates fiction with historical fact, and each song presents a different page in this complicated chapter of American History.
The Hill College Players present The Oedipus Saga, which will be available on demand beginning Thursday, March 11 at 7:30 pm and available through the end of March. The performance is $5 plus applicable taxes and is free for Hill College students and employees. The Oedipus Saga takes the stories from four Greek tragedies to tell the story of Oedipus, the King of Thebes, and the subsequent generations of his family. This one-of-a-kind production is inspired by Oedipus the King (Sophocles), Oedipus at Colonus (Sophocles), Seven Against Thebes (Aeschylus) and Antigone (Sophocles). The tragic story of Oedipus is well-known, and viewers can now watch what befalls the royal family of Thebes after those fateful revelations.
The Hill College Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble, directed by Steve Hart, and the Hill College Choir, directed by Dr. Caleb Chang, will perform a Virtual Spring Season Concert Thursday, April 15 at 7:30 pm, which will be streamed online and available for viewing through Sunday, April 18.
The Phillip H. Lowe Performing Arts Series The Bronx Wanderers will be available on-demand beginning Thursday, April 22 at 7:30 pm through Sunday, April 24. The Bronx Wanderers is a celebration of American rock and roll and the story of one musical family told through their favorite songs with plenty of laughs and memories along the way. Music of Neil Diamond, Credence Clearwater Revival, and the Beatles are featured. It’s a wonderful nostalgic show that has won Best of Vegas three times.
The Hill College Student Showcase, presented by the Hill College Visual and Performing Arts Department, will be streamed online at no cost from Thursday, May 6 through Sunday, May 9. The showcase is an evening of student-directed one-act plays from the theatre department, student solo and ensemble performances from the music department, and an exhibition of student artwork from the fine arts department.
